SUMMARY:Energy in Agriculture 2018
DESCRIPTION:Energy in Agriculture 2017 attracted 2500 attendees and 63 exhibitors. It proved to be a highly successful\, interesting\, informative and productive day for visitors\, speakers and exhibitors alike. \nThe 2018 event will take place again at Gurteen College\, Co Tipperary on Tuesday 21st August 2018. The format and set up will be bigger and better than last year with the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat\, the Microgeneration Grant Scheme and the further development of the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme taking the energy opportunities in the agricultural sector to a much higher level. \nThe Agenda for the day is jam packed and includes:\n– A large dedicated EXPO Arena featuring over 60 exhibition stands plus additional external exhibitors\n– 3 plenary style panel discussion/showcase sessions\n– 3 streams of seminars running in parallel in dedicated venues adjacent to the arena incorporating over 20 talks throughout the day on a variety of practical and planning topics\n– Practical demonstrations on Solar PV\, Wind\, Biomass and Anaerobic Digestion.\n– Return of the highly successful 1:1 Advice Clinics on Tax\, Planning\, Legal\, Finance & Energy \nThe event is free to attend and all are welcome. Further details and full programme for the day will be posted in due course.

SUMMARY:Certificate In Compost Facility Operation (Online)
DESCRIPTION:The programme was developed in association with Cré (The Composting Association of Ireland) and FÁS and is accredited as a “Certificate in Compost Facility Operation” (Special Purpose Award Certificate\, Level 6\, 10 Credits). It is equivalent to a 10 Credit Module of a Higher Certificate in Science. Normally a Higher Certificate is taken over two years full-time in a third level institute and involves achieving a total of 120 Credits. \nComposting Operator Training Programme Content \n– Definitions and Biology of Composting\n– Composting Process\n– Composting Technologies\n– Process Control\n– Potential Environmental Impacts & Environmental Management\n– Compliance with Regulatory Framework\n– Health and Safety\n– Facility Maintenance\n– Compost Uses and Marketing\n– Community Relations \nDelivery \nThe programme is delivered over 6 days\, comprising three blocks of 2 days over a period of two months. The programme comprises lectures and site visits to a large green waste composting facility (windrow technology)\, a small green waste composting facility and food waste composting facility (In- vessel/Animal By- Product Facility). The students are required to complete reports of site visits and other assignments and to undertake an exam at the end of the programme. The programme is delivered off-campus at locations close to Dublin.

SUMMARY:Smart Farming Talk
DESCRIPTION:Smart Farming\, the voluntary resource efficiency programme led by IFA in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency\, will hold a FARM TALK in Geashill\, Co. Offaly on Friday 31st August. \nMinister for Communications\, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten and IFA President Joe Healy will be guest speakers at the farm talk. \nIFA President Joe Healy said\, “While current environmental discussion is focused on the challenges\, there is a need to focus on solutions and pragmatic measures that can be taken to address sustainability challenges. This worthwhile farm talk will hear how precision farming is leading to reduced costs and environmental risks\, as well as the ongoing evolution of CAP policy”. \nPresenters from Teagasc and IFA will speak on CAP\, soil structure\, IT and precision fertiliser application. Representatives from Glanbia and Bord Bia will provide advice on fodder and sustainability. \nExhibitors will also give details of supports available for better water management and ways to reduce energy bills. \nIFA National Environment Chairman Thomas Cooney said\, “The Smart Farming programme continues to highlight ways to reduce costs and improve farm returns while enhancing the rural environment. This Smart Farming talk focuses on delivering on this agenda in a very practical way”.
