SUMMARY:Tackling Climate Change: rhetoric or reality?
DESCRIPTION:Reducing greenhouse gas emissions\, and adapting to the impacts of inevitable climate change\, are arguably the biggest global challenges we face today. An international consensus on action was reached in Paris in 2015 with many countries introducing national laws to tackle climate change. The UK’s 2008 Climate Change Act was a pioneering commitment to set a legally binding target for reducing national emissions. In this 10th anniversary year of the Act\, how is the UK doing? Is there a gap between action and the target? How will Brexit affect progress in the future? \nLord John Krebs served as Chairman of the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee from 2010 – 2014 and was the founding Chair of the UK Climate Change Committee Adaptation Sub-Committee 2009 – 2017\, and remains a member of the Committee. \nThe Lecture will be chaired by Dr John Bowman \n6:30pm – Refreshments and Registration\n7:00pm – Lecture\n7:45pm – Questions and Answers Session\n8:30pm – Ends. \nThis lecture will be broadcast live to the web. SUMMARY:Design Thinking Ireland 2018
DESCRIPTION:Now in it’s 5th year\, IRDG is delighted to bring you Ireland’s leading annual business conference on Design Thinking. Designed to benefit and connect all those across the public and private sectors who continue to innovate around products\, processes and services\, this unique event will once again host leading speakers and practitioners with forward-thinking insights from Ireland and beyond. \nA recent study by PwC demonstrated that Design Thinking is now being used by almost 60% of companies as their operating model in driving innovation\, given it’s more collaborative approach compared with traditional models. What design thinking does is provide a framework to create solutions from a user-need perspective and through its process enables designers\, managers and CEOs enhance their creative confidence. It really forces a company to think of WHY and WHO they are developing a product or service for\, getting to know their end user in a much more intimate way than they might have done heretofore. \nBuilding this Design Thinking mindset and capability into innovation strategy and teams has been described as yielding extraordinary results that leapfrog the expected. The approach is being used universally to address issues ranging from the design of medical devices\, packaging materials\, electronic equipment\, food products\, invoice processing systems\, software products\, to blood donation services and emergency room visits\, along with a whole variety of other products and services across the world. \nWhether you are new to this topic or already focused on it\, Design Thinking Ireland 2018 brings you an entirely new line-up to share the business experience and value of design thinking\, and equip you with the knowledge to embed it in your business strategy and innovation culture. \n
