DESCRIPTION:The Mid-West Lean Network: the second largest regional lean network in Ireland\, after Waterford Institute of Technology’s Lean Enterprise Excellence Group\, launched in November\, was set up to strengthen and increase the existing culture of lean within the Shannon and the wider Mid-West region. Its aim is to enable each industry to broaden and strengthen their competitiveness through knowledge sharing and bench-marking against each other and different industries. \nWorkshop #1 will take place in Reagecon\, Shannon and will focus on:  Learning Lean – One Year In!  \nReagecon started their Lean journey one year ago and at this workshop they will be sharing their learnings and achievements to date. \n Registration from 9.00 am \nPlease book online to secure your place \nPresenters \nJohn Barron is the Founder\, Chairman and Managing Director of Reagecon Diagnostics Ltd\, which is the worlds largest producer of physical and chemical standards and reference materials. Reagecon produces over 10\,000 physical and chemical standards and currently employs 100 people at its manufacturing and development centre in Shannon.\nHe initially trained as a clinical bacteriologist\, but converted over to the science of physical and chemical metrology in his late 20’s. He was educated at the Technical University Dublin\, the University of Ulster and Stanford University in Palo Alto.\nJohn is an avid follower of rugby and Gaelic games and is also an avid collector of all Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors\, implements and literature. \nVicky Howard\, a graduate of NUIG\, Vicky started her career in Financial Services as a HR Adviser at INVESCO in London. On returning to Ireland \, Vicky joined Reagecon in early 2004 and worked in a number of functions before taking up a purely HR role. Vicky has completed a Masters in HRM\, a Women in Leadership course and a Certificate in Company Secretarial Law and Practice in the last 6 years. Vicky’s current role is Operations Director with responsibility for Manufacturing\, Quality\, HR\, Health and Safety and Compliance. Vicky has been a member of the Shannon Chamber Skillnet Steering Committee since October 2015 and Chair from February 2019 to January 2020. Vicky also sits on the Board at Clare Youth Service as Vice Chairperson\, an organisation offering a range of youth services across the county of Clare. \nJennifer Stratton completed studies in Biochemistry\, Medical Device Science and her MSC in Biomedical Science all from NUIG. She confirmed her career crossover journey by accepting a contract as a Research Assistant for Shannon ABC\, IT Tralee before joining the team in Reagecon in 2017. First\, as a Production Technician\, then Production Cell Lead.\nIn 2018\, Jennifer took on the new role of Lean Specialist. This is a role she is truly passionate about – Continuous Improvement and sewing a common thread through all the facets of the business. DESCRIPTION:About the Speakers\nLarry Ryan is a Value Stream Leader within the Nypro Healthcare organisation. He has been part of the Nypro Waterford team since April of 2018. Prior to joining Nypro\, Larry held various Lean Operational\, QC\, and CI roles within the medical device and pharmaceutical industry. A graduate of the WIT Lean Masters programme\, he is a passionate exponent of Lean principles deployment. Larry was part of the Lake Region Medical team that was successful in achieving Shingo Bronze accreditation in 2012 and 2015. In his current role\, he leads a customer-focused team in a matrix structure\, responsible for delivering VS KPIs and manufacturing solutions to meet and exceed the needs of the customer. \nCecil Black is the Site Lean Champion at Nypro Healthcare and a member of the Nypro site leadership team. Cecil first gained an insight into Lean and Six Sigma methodologies in 2000 while completing his Green Belt as part of the Honeywell operating system introduction. Cecil has 35 years’ experience in manufacturing across pharmaceutical\, automotive\, aerospace\, and medical device industries. This programme is designed to foster resilience to the challenges of climate change by focusing on ways that businesses can reduce emissions and increase energy and operational efficiency. The emphasis is on increasing knowledge and developing skills in key areas where climate change directly affects enterprise operations\, such as energy supply\, carbon tax\, resource usage and waste management. The programme is intended to provide upskilling opportunities for those in supervisory or management roles in both the public and private sector. \nThe proposed SPA is a level 8 special purpose award\, based on three modules which address the key areas of climate change that affect business operations. The two core modules\, Energy and resource optimisation and Climate change and governance cover the relevant technical and legislative aspects of the programme. The third module is a work-based project which allows the student to develop and apply their newly gained knowledge by completing a project that critically addresses climate change impacts in the context of their own workplace or industry. \nStudents who are unemployed will be expected to carry out the project as work experience. \nIt is proposed that the programme will be delivered via a blended learning approach\, involving a mixture of on-line (approx. 80%) and face to face (approx. 20%) delivery. DESCRIPTION:About the Speaker\nJuanita Guidera is a Senior Manager in the Health Service Executive where she works as a Quality Improvement (QI) Facilitator focused on Staff Engagement for Quality. A key part of her role is to influence cultural change through designing\, developing\, and testing organisational interventions to enhance staff engagement\, innovation\, and action. This work focuses on supporting leaders to further develop leadership skills for engaging staff as a core competency and keystone of quality improvement. Marrying the evidence and the experience of staff within the cultural context with the use of creative facilitation techniques\, it becomes possible to hear and value the staff voice as a positive and powerful force to improve quality. Of special interest is the move for leaders from a control and command leadership style and that delicate balance in delegating autonomy while maintaining overall responsibility for delivery. Juanita has worked in healthcare since 2001 and has lectured both nationally and internationally. \nAbout the Topic\n\nJuanita will deliver an interactive and experiential session focused on leadership skills for engaging staff in quality. DESCRIPTION:Lean in the Public Sector (LIPS) is an international forum where practitioners share lessons learned during lean transformation in public sector and non-profit organizations.  Content that educates\, informs\, and inspires Lean Construction\, Lean Government\, Lean Service\, and Lean Enterprise is a focus of the group. \n  \n3 Day programme will include: \n\nWorkshop Day – The workshops are aimed at beginner\, intermediate and advanced levels for Owner Representatives\, Designers\, Construction Managers\, Consultants/Trainers\, Academics and Students. The workshops will use interactive and action based learning through a combination of simulations\, exercises\, discussions and short presentations.\n\n  \n\nTraining Day – The purpose of Training day is to provide an opportunity to share current best practice and challenges from both local and international projects. The programme focusses on environmentally friendly operational practices and managing performance indicators to achieve national (sector specific) energy efficiency and CO2 emissions targets. \nThe proposed SPA is a level 6 minor award based on two modules which are designed to address key technical environmental areas such as energy and water management\, resources usage and waste reduction.\nThe Green Campus Model which is based on well established “green campus” principles which can be applied to any business or premises. The second module is a Work based project which utilises and builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the Green Campus module. The project will be work based and will address a real issue from the students work place\, for example an energy usage or waste reduction project. \nStudents who are unemployed will be expected to carry out the project as work experience\n1. Title: The Green Campus Model\, 15 Credits\, Level 6\nHard science based module addressing the understanding and managing of environmental key performance indicators (KPIs). The module is delivered in the context of the National Development Plan and the NEEAP with the aim of demonstrating how businesses and enterprise can reduce their water usage\, CO2 emissions and waste generation. DESCRIPTION:Decarbonising Ireland’s gas network\nThe Irish energy sector is undergoing a transition to a low carbon future. Although much of the focus to date has been on electricity there is now a need to move the policy debate towards the transition of Ireland’s natural gas network to low carbon gas sources. There are an emerging number of elements to the decarbonisation of the natural gas infrastructure including biomethane injection\, carbon capture and storage and power-to-gas hydrogen technologies. This transition will likely be accelerated by the next policy milestone that will be the EU’s Gas Package which is currently being formulated and should be finalised by the new Commission in spring 2020. It is expected that the Package will include targets for the per centage of renewable gas in gas networks. \n  \nThe objective of this conference is to look at the options for decarbonisation and how they might be applied in an Irish context.

SUMMARY:Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
DESCRIPTION:The objective of this programme is to provide participants with a detailed overview of how standardisation\, monitoring and problem solving are used practically to fix issues and ensure the organisation’s targets are achieved. This course is split into three main sections: \n6S and Visual Management – This module initially looks at 6S in the context of an overall Visual Management Framework and describes how it offers very real and measurable benefits to organisations which successfully implement it. Having overviewed 6S\, the module introduces the students to a variety of methods used for visual management in a lean environment. \nPIT Process – The name “PIT” is an acronym drawn from three words “Performance”\, “Issues” and “Targets”. PIT is a quick\, daily production focused review aimed at ensuring that the agreed production target for an area is achieved consistently. The PIT process is at the heart of the healthy functioning of any operation\, continuously monitoring performance and taking immediate action where necessary to counteract risks. \nProblem Solving – Covers the underlying concepts behind Lean problem solving\, Root Cause Analysis and the application of the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control) cycle in implementation of solutions. It includes detail on the most commonly used problem-solving tools such as Five Whys and Ishikawa’s Seven problem solving tools\, and emphasises the A3 process as a problem solving methodology.
