SUMMARY:WIT Lean Practitioner Seminar Series 2017-2018 - 6th Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Combining Coaching with Lean provides a powerful framework that will develop your people to improve your business. Through a methodical coaching process\, levering scientific problem solving generates an action/learning cycle moving the coachee towards their desired outcome via small incremental continuous improvements. This unique coaching relationship creates a challenging and supportive environment wherein the value of critical reflective thinking provides the basis for rapid rates of change towards sustained behaviour and/or performance. \nThis seminar will introduce the coaching process that enables successful transformation change by developing your people to continuously improve your business. Trevor will share some key learnings for context\, revealing a deeper understanding as to the difference when coaching the ‘What’ as opposed to the ‘Who’ of the coachee. SUMMARY:Digital Construction Summit 2018 - Can Ireland Lead Construction 4.0?
DESCRIPTION:Just as other sectors are embracing emerging technologies to aggressively deliver “Industry 4.0?\, the construction sector is exploring the potential of “Construction 4.0\,” a realm in which laser scanning\, drones\, real-time data exchange\, 4D executions and immediate field-to-office stakeholder communication will be the norm. \nDigital technology is transforming the way construction and infrastructure projects are designed\, delivered and operated. Ideas that were conceptual only a few years ago are fast becoming best practice across the world. Indeed\, Digital transformation within the construction industry is no longer an option but a necessity. However\, many in the sector\, as a result of internal resistance to change\, budget constraints\, skills shortages and a very fragmented environment\, still find themselves very much stuck in the slow lane. This needs to change. \nAt the 2018 Digital Construction Summit we will discuss the barriers that must be overcome to ensure the construction industry can effectively catch up with technical innovation and digitalization. We will assess what’s next in the digital roadmap towards BIM and what impact innovations like additive manufacturing\, robotics\, automation\, drones\, artificial intelligence\, VDC technology and IoT will have on the way in which building projects are planned\, funded\, designed and delivered. \nThe Summit will bring together technologists\, developers\, planners\, architects\, engineers\, contractors\, material and solution providers\, and other key stakeholders pivotal in the construction supply chain to explore best strategies and solutions to embrace digital transformation for a more productive and profitable future… \nIn short\, the summit offers the perfect opportunity for the entire construction industry ecosystem to come together to update on the latest technologies and discuss how they can be encouraged and used to make Ireland a leader in Construction 4.0. \nTopics to be discussed at the summit include: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe future of the built environment\nThe rise of Construction 4.0\nRoadmap to BIM\nThe LEAN journey\nRecreating our past and reinventing our future\nA new era for construction stills: how the digital agenda is driving new opportunities for skills and training\nLaser Scanning Techniques for Job Site Surveying\nHow to make the most out of advanced analytics\nInsights into next generation field technology\nConstruction industry IT support and real-time collaboration\nBig Data: Effective ways to control data overflow\nMaterial and equipment tracking with the latest technology\nAI for design and build\n\nThis event is designed for anyone in Ireland’s construction’s space. SUMMARY:Certified ScrumMaster from Scrum Alliance
DESCRIPTION:The industry-recognised Certified ScrumMaster Training is the perfect building block to educate and certify your people. Through exercises and peer discussions\, attendees realise how much they rely on habits that lower productivity\, quality\, and return on investment. They also get to experience first-hand how a change to Scrum practises works and feels. \nThrough a mixture of class room study\, exercises\, pair discussions and real-world trainer experiences\, an attendee will learn how a Scrum project works and how to facilitate and coach a Scrum project. Techniques we will investigate include Vision Creation\, the use of the Product Backlog\, Backlog Formatting Techniques\, Story Point Estimation\, and how to use this to formulate a release plan. \nWe’ll learn about how Sprint Backlogs (the lower level of planning in Scrum) can work and we’ll experience it for ourselves in a case study. Many people struggle to get the Daily Scrum ceremony working effectively\, but you won’t – after hearing some of our primers for helping you maximise the benefit for the team from this key principle. \nYou will experience how to coach your team through planning and through the powerful inspect and adapt technique of retrospectives. How to report this information in a clear and simple format is the key objective of Burndown Charts – which we’ll discuss in depth. Finally\, you will discover our learning in how to apply Scrum to an enterprise environment. Scaling and distribution will be the key areas of investigation in this final session. \nWith a course content and delivery technique consistently rated as “Excellent” by our attendees\, our Private and Public CSM options should be considered an essential for any Agile training.

SUMMARY:Mid-West Lean Network: Workshop 1 How to Start the Lean Journey
DESCRIPTION:The Mid-West Lean Network is now well established. It was set up to enable companies within the Mid-West region to learn about Lean\, share best practice\, improve their Lean undertakings and to facilitate member-to-member networking. \nWe have learnt in the past year that many companies\, particularly SMEs and the smaller micro enterprises\, have not yet started on their Lean journeys\, either through lack of resources or lack of expertise. \nThis workshop\, the first in our 2018 series\, will start at the very beginning: \n1. Explain what Lean is all about…in any area of a company;\n2. Give case examples (2) of how a company can embrace Lean and;\n3. Highlight the types of support available to adopt and undertake Lean. \nThe Mid-West Lean Network: the second largest regional lean network in Ireland\, after Waterford Institute of Technology’s Lean Enterprise Excellence Group\, was set up in November 2016 to strengthen and increase the existing culture of lean within the Shannon and the wider Mid-West region. Its aim is to enable each industry to broaden and strengthen its competitiveness through knowledge sharing and bench-marking against each other and different industries.

SUMMARY:WIT Lean Practitioner Seminar Series 2017-2018 - 5th Seminar - The LEAN Maintenance Journey
DESCRIPTION:In this seminar Joe O’Sullivan discusses the identification and implementation of a Lean Maintenance program. Although the application of lean tools\, techniques and thinking has grown in popularity in organisations\, there is limited information on how best to integrate lean thinking into an existing maintenance program. Advances in artificial intelligence and robotics have created challenges for both Lean and Reliability Engineering models. This seminar will explore the benefits of amalgamating Lean and Reliability Engineering and proposes a Lean Maintenance roadmap that arguably could be adopted by any maintenance department. \nAbout the speaker \nJoe O’Sullivan served his time as a Fitter Turner with the Irish Sugar company in the 1980s. As a Maintenance Manager he has coached and mentored teams of maintenance practitioners over the past 20 years in both the electronic and pharmaceutical industries. He currently holds a Master of Business Studies in Lean Practice from Waterford Institute of Technology; a Master of Science Degree in Maintenance Engineering & Asset Management from University of Manchester; a Graduate Diploma in Management from University of Edinburgh; and a Diploma in Management from University of Limerick. He is currently secretary of the Japanese Karate Association of Ireland\, which successfully hosted the World Karate-Do Championships in August 2017. His role model both in business and in his personal life is Stephen R Covey.

SUMMARY:Business Model Innovation with Stuart Nelson of Jigsaw Consulting
DESCRIPTION:A business model describes the rationale of how an organization creates\, delivers\, & captures value! \nBusiness models can best be described through nine basic building blocks that show the logic of how a company intends to make money. The nine blocks cover the four main areas of a business: customers\, offer\, infrastructure\, and financial viability. The business model is a blueprint for a strategy to be implemented through organizational structures\, processes\, and systems. The nine business model building blocks form the basis for a handy tool\, which we call the Business Model Canvas \nWhy you should attend? \nToday\, everything is moving faster yet the business environment is more complex. Opportunities to grow are everywhere but are rarely obvious and innovation is key. Organisations need to understand their model and be able to pre-empt their competition. \nThis taster introduces business model thinking and the methods\, techniques and tools used to innovate business models. \nWho should attend? \nEstablished & growing businesses interested in understanding what business models are and how to use business model thinking\, methods and tools to increase their ability to generate revenue.
