SUMMARY:Managing and Reporting your Value Chain Emissions
DESCRIPTION:Given the ambitious global targets that are being set to reach “net zero”\, organisations are either initiating or stepping up their carbon commitment reductions. With most large companies already accounting and reporting on the emissions from their direct operations (Scopes 1 and 2)\, they are now beginning to focus on their full range of corporate value chain and product emissions.  Emissions from along the value chain (also known as Scope 3 emissions) often represent a company’s biggest greenhouse gas impact however they can be much harder to measure than those from a company’s direct operations. Value chain emissions include all indirect emissions generated by the business such as purchased goods and services\, investments\, business travel\, use of sold products\, upstream and downstream transportation. \nThis event will address the steps organisations can take to identify and reduce their Scope 3 emissions and will include case studies from both Microsoft and Kellogg. \nAgenda \nOverview of Value Chain Emissions (Scope 3) from Grainne McIvor at Clearstream Solutions \nUpdate on the CDP Supply Chain Programme from Hugo Ernest-Jones at CDP Global \nPanel: The steps companies can take to both measure\, reduce and report on their value chain emissions \n– Ken O’Farrell\, Director of Fulfilment and Logistics at Microsoft \n– David Fitzgerald\, Head of Responsible Sourcing for Europe at Kellogg \nKen and David will be joined on the panel by Grainne and Hugo and it will be moderated by Brian O’Kennedy from Clearstream Solutions. \nAudience: This event should be of interest to companies who are starting or stepping up their carbon journey and setting carbon reduction targets. \nThis event is supported by CDP\, Ibec Supply Chain Network & the Dublin Chamber. It is free to attend but registration is necessary. \nPlatform: This event is virtual and the link will be sent to those who have registered in advance of the event \nRegistration: This event is free to attend\, however registration is essential at this REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Digital Event - Industrial Efficiency 2020; Decarbonise Industry
DESCRIPTION:Time is running out to avert catastrophic consequences from global warming. Following IPCC’s wake-up call\, bold and decisive action is needed now. With a third of global final energy consumption\, industry has a key role in the transition ahead. \nRegardless of the end-use sector\, energy efficiency is key to decarbonisation\, productivity gains\, energy security\, improved competitiveness and socio-economic benefits. Efficiency improvements also reduce costs associated with maintenance\, production stand-still and insurance fees. And\, importantly\, this will have positive employment benefits throughout the economy. \nFast decarbonisation key challenge \nThe decarbonisation of industry presents a formidable challenge. In a few sectors\, such as iron and steel\, new carbon-free processes may lead to more electricity being used. Just going for renewables is not enough. By increasing efficiency across all sectors and end-uses we can free up resources to make this transition affordable and manageable. \nLooking beyond carbon and energy \nIndustrial Efficiency 2020 will explore current and emerging trends in industry\, such as new business models\, digitalisation\, industry 4.0\, the circular economy and resource efficiency\, and discuss the significance of these trends for delivering decarbonisation. The multiple benefits of energy efficiency are of particular interest. \nSix panels on accelerating the decarbonisation \nAll presentations by participants are based on an abstract submission for any of the following six panels (for a complete description of the panels and presentation of the panel leaders\, see the panels and theme pages). \nPolicies and programmes to drive transformation\nSustainable production towards a circular economy\nEnergy management – in real life\nTechnology\, processes and systems\nBusiness models\, finance and investment\nDeep decarbonisation of industry \nA vibrant and proud industry and harbour city \nThis event was planned to take place in Gothenburg\, on the west coast of Sweden. It is a proud and vibrant industrial and harbour city\, traditionally open to the rest of the world. It is the hometown of several of Sweden’s world-famous manufacturing companies such as Volvo and SKF.\nDespite the event going digital\, eceee keep working with Gotheburg-based Chalmers Industriteknik and Chalmers University of Technology. Chalmers Industriteknik is a consulting company in industrial energy\, materials\, design and circular economy with its roots in Chalmers University. \nCompact format and mixed presentations \nFormal panel presentations of either peer-reviewed papers or extended abstracts (without accompanying paper) will be offered in two sessions mid-day to accommodate for parrticipants in other time zones. \nWe welcome you to four days packed with presentations.

SUMMARY:Energy Efficiency as a Service – Making your ambitious projects happen
DESCRIPTION:AEE Ireland Webinar \nTitle: Energy Efficiency as a Service – Making your ambitious projects happen \nDate: 27th August at 2.00pm \nPresented By: Mark Lynchehaun from Vodafone \nPresented By: Eimear Cahalin from Vivid Edge \nModerated By: Shane Leavy on behalf of AEE Ireland \nAmbitious improvement projects for energy infrastructure frequently don’t happen due to capital constraints; payback is too long\, cash is prioritised for other projects\, and debt is not an option. This webinar will outline the alternative ways to mobilise projects\, and in particular how the “as-a-service” model can be used well beyond the LED lighting field.

SUMMARY:Carbon Online Conference & Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:About this Event\n\n\nThe challenge of closing the gap to our 2030 target\, coupled with the broader policy objective of long-term decarbonisation across all sectors of the economy\, requires both public and private investment and large societal shifts in technology\, attitudes and behaviour\, at an unprecedented pace. Specifically\, Ireland requires a change in its overall emissions trajectory of the order of a 2% decline each year from 2021 to 2030 to meet our EU targets. \nTo meet the required level of emissions reduction\, by 2030 the Government will implement a carbon tax rate of at least €80 per tonne by 2030\, accompanied by a trajectory of increases over successive annual Budgets. Carbon pricing will have a key role to play in the transition to a low-carbon economy and has been recognised by the Climate Change Advisory Council as an important tool for Ireland to achieve its long-term decarbonisation objectives in a cost-effective manner by 2050. \nThe Journey to 2030 and 2050 An important factor in choosing policies to deliver the 2% per annum reduction is a realisation that in the period between 2030 and 2050\, a much steeper decline of 7% per annum will have to be achieved based on achieving a minimum 80% emissions reduction by 2050\, relative to 1990. One important implication of this for the period to 2030 is to ensure that all investment choices make sense in terms of decarbonising by 2050\, and we avoid creating stranded assets by choosing what may appear to be cheaper options in terms of our 2030 decarbonisation goal.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Fossil Fuel Lock-in in Ireland — How Much Value is at Risk?
DESCRIPTION:Fossil fuel lock-in refers to the idea that countries are locked-in to carbon or fossil fuel energy systems because they have invested heavily in the infrastructure of that energy system. Stakeholders in the finance and banking industries\, including central banks\, regulators and credit rating agencies\, have warned of the financial risk associated with being locked into fossil energy systems and have called for collective action to facilitate the role of the financial sector in achieving the Paris Agreement objectives of “making finance flows consistent with pathways towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate resilient development”. \nRecent research on this topic has been carried out by a group from UCC\, led by Dr Celine McInerney\, and a report on this work was published by the EPA last year. The research found that as the cost of renewable technologies continues to fall\, fossil assets become less competitive and profits for fossil generators are reduced. Under decarbonisation scenarios\, returns to investors in fossil assets and related infrastructure may not be sufficient to incentivise investment. \nPresented by Professor Celine McInerney \nThis series is organised by the RIA Climate Change and Environmental Sciences Committee in collaboration with the EPA.

SUMMARY:Water Innovation Europe 2020
DESCRIPTION:DIGITAL INNOVATIVE WATER WEEK \nIn 2050 Europe aims to be the world’s first climate-neutral continent implementing the European Green Deal: an ambitious package of measures to deeply transform our economy and society. In the meantime\, the wake-up call of the COVID-19 crisis deeply reinforced this necessity for Europe to a new paradigm towards a Water-Smart Society\, from crisis management to risk management and prevention in Europe and beyond. \nPollution and viruses do not stop at our boundaries and are not an issue of a single sector only. One trillion of the European budget will have to contribute to the ecological transition\, particularly through emission reduction. \nAs water is a cross-sectoral and strategic resource\, water security should be a prerequisite to make the green deal a success. We need investment in innovative solutions to achieve a Water Smart Society which fully considers the true value of water. Europe’s leadership has already demonstrated its positive impact in Europe and beyond to support green growth\, find sustainable solutions and strengthen its position on the world market. \nResearch and innovation along the full value chain in the water sector can still go steps further: \n\nHow can water enable European society to prevent crises\, ensure resiliency and reboot our economy after and beyond the COVID19 crisis?\nHow could we make sure that water efficiency gains at an individual level are translated into long-term water security in a context of climate change adaptation?\nHow to fuel research\, technological development\, and wider sectoral policy coordination to tackle urgent global water and food systems challenges?\nHow to halt the loss of aquatic biodiversity through 2030 through inclusive models gathering the public sector\, the private sector and civil society?\nHow to move away from conventional\, linear approaches to tackle water quality deterioration\, towards circularity and industrial symbiosis?\n\nJoin the WIE2020 digital edition to get answers to these questions\, gain new insights\, debate and discuss!

SUMMARY:Webinar: Maximise Energy Savings with CO2 Heat Pumps (CPD)
DESCRIPTION:The sustainable concept behind CO2 Heat Pumps is to use freely available energy from the environment or waste energy from one process to feed another. \nThe heat (or cold) energy released by a process or a building\, which would normally be dumped into the atmosphere\, is instead used to heat (or cool) a different process or area. \nJoin our live Heat Pump Webinar to see case studies and learn more about the efficiencies of combined heating and cooling with CO2 Heat Pumps and the environmental benefits of using CO2 as a refrigerant.
