SUMMARY:Mid-West Lean Network Workshop 5: Standard Work
DESCRIPTION:Workshop #5 in the Mid-West Lean Network’s 2020 schedule\, which takes place online\, will focus on: \n Standard Work \nStandard Work outlines the current best known method (or standard) for each step of the production process. This new ‘Standard’ forms a baseline for the process from which all future Kaizen or Continuous Improvement activities are measured. Once improvements are made the new standard becomes the baseline for further improvements and so on\, continuing an endless cycle of improvement. \nIn this webinar\, joint presenters Atlantic Aviaiton Group and Advanced Technical Concepts will provide an insight into how they deploy standard work in their respective organisations and will give an overview of the following points relating to Standard Work: \n\nWhat is Standard Work.\nHow Standard Work has evolved and developed over the years.\nSuccess stories and difficulties encountered using Standard Work\n\nThis session is Free of Charge\, but registrations is essential.  \nLink to join webinar will be shared 24 hours before scheduled time. \nThe Mid-West Lean Network: the second largest regional lean network in Ireland\, after Waterford Institute of Technology’s Lean Enterprise Excellence Group\, launched in November\, was set up to strengthen and increase the existing culture of lean within the Shannon and the wider Mid-West region. Its aim is to enable each industry to broaden and strengthen their competitiveness through knowledge sharing and bench-marking against each other and different industries.

SUMMARY:LBI July Series Discussion 2: Managing Peak Demand
DESCRIPTION:How Lean Principles Supported An Post Manage Increased Christmas Demand\nMany companies face peak demand issues requiring redeployment and hiring of temporary employees to meet seasonal demands\, none more so than An Post. The Leading Edge Group were commissioned to review and put in place a structure and plan to manage the 2019 Peak which was estimated to increase dramatically from the previous year with significant volumes forecasted by one of their key customers\, Amazon. Lean principles were deployed such as value stream design mapping\, standard work and demand/capacity modelling to identify constraints and inefficiencies and to allow the operating units to align capacity well in advance. This also allowed Sales to provide feedback to customers in terms of effective capacity and service levels and therefore manage the expected demand inflows. More effective operating layouts and flow management processes were also developed so that product status was highly visual and further improvement opportunities were easy to identify and execute. The success of the project was enabled by high levels of teamwork and communication\, supported by daily huddles and weekly KPI meetings which were rigorously attended by all the key stakeholders. The result was that An Post delivered a 100% increase in Parcel volumes which continued through further demand spikes resulting from COVID-19. \n  \nPanellists: \n\nPat Cullinane\, Transformation Consultant\, Leading Edge Group\nDavid Murray\, Head of Mails Operational Excellence\, An Post\n\n  \nAs this is an online panel discussion\, please: \n\nMute your microphone. If you are calling from a smartphone you will see the mic symbol or press *6 after you dial in;\nUse the chat function in Zoom to ask questions or email Senan.ORiain@ida.ie before or during the call;\nPlease note that this is a Zoom Call\, so places are limited and priority will be given to industry reps;\nA Waitlist will be set up if demand requires\, the event will be broadcast live on YouTube\, a link will be made available at 6.15pm to everybody on the Waitlist;\nA recording will be made available afterwards.\n\n  \nPlease check www.LeanBusinessIreland.ie for further details and Join Your local Lean Regional Network!

SUMMARY:Cancelled-Dublin Lean Network - Best Practice Site Visit - Alexion Dublin
DESCRIPTION:-Unfortunately we are going to have to postpone our Best Practice visit planned for this Friday. With the potential risks Alexion’s manufacturing facilities posed by the recent Covid-19 outbreak\, we are aiming to minimize the flow of people into Alexion’s facilities\, this is being done to ensure the continued supply of their medicines to patients. This is a proactive step we have decided to take in order to reduce the risk to Alexion’s manufacturing facilities. We apologise for the late cancellation of the visit and hope to re-schedule in the near future.- \n  \nThis event will highlight the journey undertaken by Alexion in Ireland to bring about a step change in their manufacturing process. From generating ideas\, developing a culture open to change and showcasing success stories. \nParticipants will gain an understanding of what it is like to begin a Lean Journey and will learn from people who have gone through the process. \nThis event is recommended for any company in the Dublin area that is looking to kick off a lean manufacturing process and is struggling to figure out how. \nPlease note\, spaces are limited to two people per company. If you are interested in attending\, please fill out the Expression of Interest form and we will be in contact to confirm your attendance.

SUMMARY:South East Lean Network: Leadership Skills For Engaging Staff In Quality Improvement (QI)
DESCRIPTION:About the Speaker\nJuanita Guidera is a Senior Manager in the Health Service Executive where she works as a Quality Improvement (QI) Facilitator focused on Staff Engagement for Quality. A key part of her role is to influence cultural change through designing\, developing\, and testing organisational interventions to enhance staff engagement\, innovation\, and action. This work focuses on supporting leaders to further develop leadership skills for engaging staff as a core competency and keystone of quality improvement. Marrying the evidence and the experience of staff within the cultural context with the use of creative facilitation techniques\, it becomes possible to hear and value the staff voice as a positive and powerful force to improve quality. Of special interest is the move for leaders from a control and command leadership style and that delicate balance in delegating autonomy while maintaining overall responsibility for delivery. Juanita has worked in healthcare since 2001 and has lectured both nationally and internationally. \nAbout the Topic\n\nJuanita will deliver an interactive and experiential session focused on leadership skills for engaging staff in quality. Throughout the session\, participants will have an opportunity to: \n\nexplore the cultural challenges that present during this work\, and\nexperience techniques that are designed to change the conversation and outcome of QI.\n\nA number of the facilitation techniques used will come from the world of “liberating structures” which complement Lean and other QI methodologies. This session will be of interest to anyone who has ever tried to convince someone to join them on an improvement journey. \nLean Practitioners Sharing Knowledge\nThe South East Lean Network and WIT Academy of Lean Enterprise Excellence present the Annual WIT Lean Practitioner Seminar Series\, kindly supported by Enterprise Ireland and brought to you in association with Waterford Chamber Skillnet. \nThis is a series of free monthly network and knowledge exchange events that bring together continuous improvement practitioners in Lean enterprise\, operational\, and process excellence to share their expertise\, knowledge\, experience\, and good practices.
