SUMMARY:South West Lean Forum Networking Event
DESCRIPTION:The South West Lean Forum is delighted to announce a unique event this July at IRD Duhallow. We will be joined by Noel Hennessy (Former CI Director Lake Region Medical) who will share with us the journey he and the team went on to achieve the first Shingo accreditation in Ireland over 10 years ago. \nIreland is now the highest per-capita Shingo winning location in the world. In October this year Ireland will be hosting the European Shingo Conference so this is a unique opportunity to gain insight as to what a Shingo Journey looks like. \nThis event is for anyone based in the region and beyond with an interest in Lean/Continuous Improvement\, Enterprise Excellence and the Shingo model. You and your team should not miss out on this free event. \nOur venue is situated in North West Cork outside the town of Newmarket which is only a few KMs from the Co Kerry and Co. Limerick county bounds. \nWe at the South West Lean Forum extend an invite to any business interested in the what Shingo is all about and how your journey with Lean and Continuous Improvement can be started\, re-set\, or nurtured to something that sets Ireland Inc apart globally. \nNoel will be joined in conversation by Rob Brosnan\, Chair\, South West Lean Forum\, (Formerly GE Healthcare & Founder of Lean Kaizen Consulting) and Conor Dawson (Senior Consultant- S A Partners) \nThis event is kindly sponsored by SA Partners & The ICBE \nNoel Hennessy – Biography \nPrior to establishing Practical Lean Solutions www.practicalleansolutions.com in 2018 Noel was the EU / Asia Enterprise Excellence Director for Lake Region Medical (Now Integer). During his tenure the New Ross site achieved the Shingo Bronze Medallion and Irish Medical Technology Company of the Year in recognition of their Operational Excellence Program. Noel’s search for best practice has seen him participate in global benchmarking visits to Europe\, the US\, India\, and Japan. He was awarded his MSc in Lean Operations from Cardiff University in 2007 and his Doctorate in Business Administration from WIT (now South East Technological University) in 2017 in which his doctoral thesis explored the relationship between Employee Engagement and Continuous Improvement. \nNoel is also an examiner for the Shingo Institute and regularly participates in assessing sites around the world. His search for best practice has seen him participate in global benchmarking visits to Europe\, the US\, India\, and Japan. He is a very passionate advocate of the transformational power of Lean and the Shingo Model in particular\, as he feels this places the emphasis on the behaviours and systems required for sustainable transformation. Noel also provides support to clients of SA Partners (Europe’s largest Shingo Affiliate) who are interested in adopting the Shingo Prize Model. \nIn November 2021 Noel co-authoring Human Lean with Prof. John Bicheno which makes the case that while 21st century employees demand greater participation and better leadership\, they also bring along vast opportunities for betterment to their organisations\, to society\, and to the environment. Noel’s hope is that the book\, which won the “Contribution to Knowledge” award at the 2022 Lean Business Ireland Conference\, will assist organisations and leaders in applying lean as a means of getting the best\, rather than the most from their employees.

Gemba walks are a series of structured\, on-site interviews with representative process participants with the goal of gaining a comprehensive understanding of the process. Interviews focus on detail such as process time\, wait time\, defect rates\, root causes and other information that can lead to targeted improvements. \nIn this session\, we will give an overview of how to approach the Gemba Walk and hear from Master Lean Practitioners\, Miriam Keogh of Dawn\, Liam Farrell of Boliden (Tara Mines) and Billy Creavin of Alkermes on their practical experience of going to the Gemba\, what the pitfalls are and how to avoid them. \n[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_custom_heading text=”About the Midlands Lean Network” google_fonts=”font_family:Dosis%3A200%2C300%2Cregular%2C500%2C600%2C700%2C800|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][divider line_type=”Small Line” line_thickness=”3″ divider_color=”accent-color”][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text] The Midlands Lean Network strives to provide a regional forum and community for Lean & Operation Excellence best practices in the midlands. Leading with Humility\, Respecting every Individual allows employees gain a deeper satisfaction for the work they do. Equally they are acknowledged\, and feel the desire to reciprocate their productivity in return. You don’t have to have all of the answers. \nYou just need to know how to set direction and help support your team to move in that direction\, without giving them all the answers. \nHow can you do this? \nBecome a leader who develops their people\, and who aligns their purpose with their actions in service of creating an organization where everyone is engaged in solving problems. \nIn this 90 minute interactive session\, leadership coach Katie Anderson will highlight the fundamentals of intentional leadership and share insights from supporting leaders around the globe to create people-centered learning organizations. \nYou will learn how the practices of purpose\, intention\, and reflection will help you align your purpose and your actions in service of creating an organization where everyone is aligned with purpose and engaged in solving problems. \nYou will explore the factors that limit organizational problem-solving\, and how leaders can balance providing challenges with support\, and when to tell (be directive) with when to ask. You will discover how to own your expertise while cultivating the thinking of others and how unconscious habits can impede leaders in achieving high levels of team performance and innovation. \nInformed by her work and her bestselling book Learning to Lead\, Leading to Learn: Lessons from Toyota Leader Isao Yoshino on a Lifetime of Continuous Learning\, Katie will share examples and practices that will help you align your purpose and your actions\, and how to develop learning in yourself\, your teams\, and your organization.\nYou will leave the session inspired to take action to lead with intention and a defined goal of how to amplify your impact with your teams and organization. \nBe prepared for interactive breakout discussions and active participation throughout the session. You will be sent instructions for a 5-10 minute preparation exercise to complete before the session. \nIn this session you will:\n• Be introduced to the Leading to Learn leadership framework (set direction\, provide support\, develop yourself) and how it supports a people-centered learning culture\n• Understand what it means to connect intention\, purpose and reflection as the foundation of learning\n• Be exposed to the continuums leaders and coaches must navigate to support the development of their people and create an organization where everyone is engaged in solving problems\n• Learn how you can amplify your impact by not having to be the expert with all the answers\n• Leave with a defined goal for your personal improvement and three practices to help you lead with intention \nAbout Katie Anderson \n \nKatie Anderson is an internationally recognized leadership and learning coach\, consultant\, and professional speaker\, best known for inspiring individuals and organizations to lead with intention\, and increase their personal and professional impact. \nKatie is passionate about helping people around the world learn to lead and lead to learn by connecting purpose\, process\, and practice to achieve higher levels of performance.
